Watch: It’s your right to share your salary, not doing so could be holding you back.
At my last company, one day someone in accounting approached me at lunch and quietly told me I need to ask for a raise because I was way underpaid.
They gave me a number to shoot for. It was about twice than what I had been making at the time.
So I went online, did some research, found some figures backing up my claim, put it all together and went to my boss.
I got what I asked for.
If it hadn’t been for that person in accounting telling me I was way underpaid, I’d have never known. I went from barely scraping by to being able to have a savings account and getting all my debts paid thanks to them.
You should at least check sites like salary.com to start the process of seeing what you should be making.
Because this is crucially important
Except for the fact that 90% of the time you are under contract not to talk about your salary otherwise the company can sue you. Every job I’ve had I’ve had to sign that I won’t discuss my pay with other employees otherwise my employment is terminated and the company will take legal action.
Important
Fuck.
If you scrolled right past this – GO THE FUCK BACK UP – this is a huge PSA
jfc I’ll be having some words with some folks

cheers to capitalism for making women hate our bodies so much that many of us would genuinely rather exist without physical forms than be looked at and judged any longer
I see a lot of progressive young people get angry when propaganda for perspectives they agree with is debunked. Back in 2016 I had a lot of people accuse me of supporting Trump because I pointed out that the photo of his parents wearing Klan robes was photoshopped. Obviously I didn’t support Trump, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s best to base your opinions about the world on things that are true and not things that are lies.
It’s important to remember that every single political and social movement produces artificial propaganda. Even the most pure and righteous cause will have supporters creating fake bullshit or manipulating to inspire pathos and conform to a convenient narrative. Try not to fall for it. Many absolutely outrageous claims turn out to be true, while many others turn out to be fabrications designed to sway opinions or undermine the credibility of a movement by introducing seductive fictions. Critical thinking is good. Suspicion is not a sin. The fact that something “feels” true is not real supporting evidence.

These “it’s god’s plan” anti-choice people don’t seem to be singing the same tune when they have to get cardiac bypass surgery.
It was god’s plan for you to die from all that bacon, Doug.
Leviticus 11:7–8. Why are you blaspheming against the Lord?
Could you imagine if there was a “clinic” that would trick patients into thinking they’re getting bypass surgery but then shames them for trying to disrupt God’s plan? That’s fucking brutally terrible right?
Look up what a “Crisis Pregnancy Center” is.

laws about minimum wage should apply to disabled people
laws about minimum wage should apply to incarcerated people
everyone deserves a fair living wage for their labor
wait, they don’t???
Not even close. Disabled folks can be paid as little as $1 an hour in some cases at whats called “subminimum wage.” Prisoners are sometimes forced to work without pay at all.
Hi, I am an attorney in the disability field. Many disabled folks make well under $1 an hour in what are called “sheltered workshops”. There are only three states right now that require people with disabilities to be paid at least minimum wage, and they are Alaska, New Hampshire, and Maryland. Goodwill is a major offender, but there are many, many others.
Here is a recent article on the subject: https://thinkprogress.org/alaska-minimum-wage-diability-b762e00ab279/
Also minimum wage actually needs to actually be a fair living wage.
We are multiple generations now with no experience with strikes, and I see a lot of confused, well meaning people who want to help but don’t know strike etiquette.
1. Never cross a picket line of striking workers.
2. Never purchase or take free goods from a company who’s workers are striking
3. Honk to support strikers if you drive by a picket line.
4. Join strikers on the picket line even if it’s not your strike, but follow their directions and defer to them while there.
5. Say “that’s great, the strike is working, the company should negotiate with their workers” whenever someone complains about profits lost, inconveniences or other worker-phobic rhetoric. Always turn it back on the company, who has all the power and money.
