i want a bedtime story!my sweet darling egg
once upon a time there was a dragon with an egg that was round, round, roundand the dragon polished it and kept it warm and safe in her hoard of seashells and white sands, and it sparkled – sparkle sparkle sparkleand the moon asked the dragon, “when will your egg hatch?”, but the dragon told the moon, “only the egg knows.” (the egg always knows best.)and many years passed, and the seas rose and fell, but the dragon kept her egg nice and safe and warm, warm warmwith her strong claws, to shoo away curious humans!and her mighty tail, to brush up a nest of fine sand!and her breath of fire, so that even when the seas froze black, her egg was nice and warm.and the moon watched, and the moon saw how much the dragon loved her egg, and the moon loved them both, too.finally, on a blue moon, at the thirteenth hour, when all the selkies were singing and all the nereids splashing white foam on the crests of the waves, the egg – hatched!and inside the egg was a beautiful sea dragon with scales of gold and green and blue, and she dove right into the waters and she and her mother swam together in the deep, deep, deepbut the moon was lonely!the moon wanted to spend more beautiful nights with the dragon, and her egg, which was now a lovely young dragon, so the moon thought hard.finally, the moon had a great idea!down onto the surface of the sea, the moon shone, and shone, brighter than ever before. and on the surface of the waters – a glittering egg! it was the reflection of the moon, inviting the dragons to come up and play. and deep, deep down in the beautiful blue waters, the dragons looked up, and they saw the reflection from the other side – because dragons can see such things – and they understood that the moon missed them.and that, my good little egg, is why the moon reflects on the waters; and why that reflection is always broken up by the shivering water, when the dragons remember their old friend, and return to play.*smoooches ur forehead* and now it’s time for bed! good night, little egg.
