Cultural appropriation is such a hard thing for me to deal with because

I understand that the desecration of something that is important and culturally significant to others is horrible and people’s cultures should be treated with respect. And also people who belong to these cultures have been oppressed and harassed when expressing this part of their identities while white people who adopt parts of other cultures with little actual knowledge are not

BUT

at the same time I’m a first generation American. And as such, someone who has grown up blending my Hispanic and American culture and celebrating holidays that may not belong to my culture but to the cultures of my friends and the people around me since the US is so culturally diverse. Also I am and have always been genuinely interested in other cultures and practices. And I am someone who believes wholeheartedly in sharing art and ideas.

So a lot of times I see people talking about cultural appropriation and I wonder where is the line? Can it honestly be considered wrong to be inspired by something you consider beautiful that belongs to another culture just because you don’t understand it fully?

I understand that other cultures should be treated with respect but I feel like on tumblr I see a lot of people saying “NO YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH THAT EVER” and it seems like a childish misguided and honestly harmful mindset to have…
