One of my favorite authors in the whole world has hit a financial snag and is in danger of losing her house: http://dianeduane.com/outofambit/a-difficult-appeal/

@dduane is a delightful human and a wonderful author.  Her books are full of life, and good people making the best choices they can.  They make me laugh and cry still on the 10000000th read.

Like modern wizards, and YA, and talking trees, and arrogant but delightful alien princes, and little sisters becoming intergalactic badasses, and kindly whales, and sentient, feral helicopters?  Get all NINE young wizards books in DRM-free formats for $20: https://ebooksdirect.co/collections/our-inventory/products/young-wizards-new-millennium-editions-9-volume-box-set

Like cats, and wizards, and cats who are wizards?  https://ebooksdirect.co/collections/feline-wizards

Want to try her writing out first before buying?  https://ebooksdirect.co/collections/freebies

Pls consider being kind to both a lovely author and to yourself, and pick up some quality reading.

(And once you’re in love with her books, come talk to me about’em.  And maybe consider joining the YW slack, which is also full of lovely people saying nice things.  And puns.)

OH! I’d been meaning to get the Young Wizard books for my kid! Looks like now is a good time to do it.

@dduane also wrote some terrific Star Trek novels if you ever want to pick those up. But I may be time to introduce my kid to her Young Wizards series.

Clarisonic Mia 2 Giveaway!

This is the official giveaway post!

Hi friends, I am giving away a Clarisonic Mia 2 PINK Christmas gift set to some fine individual out there who is suffering with acne. Doesn’t matter if it’s cystic, hormonal, induced by HRT, genetic, due to a weird diet, due to lack of self-care, etc. Every acne sufferer is welcome.

A little background: I suffered with acne for about 15 years of my life and since starting accutane, I am happy to say that I am now blemish-free, but I will never forget how embarrassed I felt when I’d have to go out in public with big huge welts on my face. I also suffer from excoriation disorder, which is a condition in where you compulsively pick at your skin. So I can really relate and I honestly feel for all of you out there dealing with your skin giving you shit.

SO, I bought this because I want to help someone who might benefit from it. I have one of my own, I love it, it helps keep my skin extremely clear, and I don’t need a second one, so I am giving this one away.

YES, this is a real thing, and YES, I did buy it. Here’s my proof of purchase if you’re that desperate for it, bc some schmuck already came for me saying I am just doing this for attention:

IF YOU WANT TO ENTER THIS GIVEAWAY:

1. realize that I will not be giving this to someone who has clear/good skin with the occasional small zit. You’re fine, boo, you will live.

2. You will have to send in a photo of your skin/acne in order to be entered. This is totally private and confidential and all photos will be deleted once the giveaway is over, and they will absolutely never be posted anywhere, for any reason at all.

3. You gotta live in the US. I’m sorry my dear international friends, but Kinoclaus’ gift sack is sorta running low after this purchase lmao.

Just a face photo would be ok! you can send it to nerosfishbowl@gmail.com titled ‘clarisonic entry’ and include your tumblr url as well. thanks!

This giveaway ends Dec. 25 2016!

Oh, and please reblog!

Three years ago, my dog went viral on Imgur and Reddit, thanks to this picture I took right after she’d yanked down a post from the front of our house with her bare strength.

But like the image above says, this is not a good post.

That dog above, the one that made so many people laugh, her name is Eva, and she’s my 7-year-old lab. She was just diagnosed with canine lymphoma.

image

Without chemo, she only has 3 months left with us. But her oncologist has given her a good prognosis with chemotherapy. She could live to see her 9th, 10th, and even 11th birthday.

Which means more years of this happy, ridiculous puppy.

The price to extend her life? $8500.

I nearly died when I saw the number. I’m paying off 4 student loans right now, and my parents are in insurmountable debt. I thought, this is it, we’re screwed. In between crying spells and anxiety attacks, I realized what my choices were: give up and let Eva go in the next 3 months, or crowdfund my ass off.

image

Internet: you’ve done it before, now I’m begging you, do it again. Spread Eva like wildfire. She deserves a second chance. She deserves the extra time, and all the fun and happiness she’ll have in that time.

Here is the link to her gofundme.

Any amount you can donate will help tremendously. Please, help Eva.

Eva has raised over $3,000 in one week!!! Part of that is because of many tumblr users who have donated, thanks to so many of you reblogging this. Please keep sharing. Tag people you know who have lots of followers. Post it on your facebook. On reddit. On twitter. Everywhere!! I have 17 weeks to come up with $5,000 more for this fantastic pupper.

New tactic for week 2: anyone who reblogs this post will get an automatic follow from me. You don’t have to follow me back! If it gets more people to reblog this post, I’ll do whatever it takes.

Want to know how corrupt the pharmaceutical industry is?

halftimesharks:

See this?

This is called Afrezza. It’s an inhaler for diabetic insulin. That’s right. An inhaler. That means no more needles. It’s only for fast acting insulin, but it could still vastly improve the life of a lot of diabetics.

Imagine having to constantly prick yourself with needles to keep yourself alive, and then suddenly there’s a new product that could change the whole way you live your life for the better.

And here’s the thing: it works. It works really really well. People with diabetes that have been lucky enough to have used it think it’s amazing.

But sadly, it’s probably going to end up as a failure because the pharmaceutical company (a French company called Sanofi) that was in charge of marketing it didn’t care enough to actually try. Not only that, but they made it incredibly expensive so hardly anyone could afford it. Most people have never heard of it, and the way things are going, no one else ever will.

Please reblog this to raise awareness of this product and hopefully get another company to market it. It could change so many lives.

Help Alana survive this month!

lady-feral:

Hey everyone.  I am loathe to do this and I’ve been trying to find any work I can get, but I’m going to need some help.  I’m waiting to hear back from a couple people but all of my employment prospects are going to require relocation.

I’ve made it a point to lend my voice and signal boost (and donate to) everyone that I’ve been able to since I’ve had this blog.  My pride is very much wounded to be in a situation where I have to ask for help, but I definitely need help right now.

Those of you that know me should also know that as soon as I’m back on my feet I’ll be doing what I can to help everyone that I can.  Every little bit helps, and I absolutely mean that.

Please help me if you’re able.  Even if it’s only a dollar or two.  I am literally begging.

Help Alana survive this month!

support vastly on kickstarter!

i think everyone who follows me knows that i’m passionate about teaching, while also thinking the current way of teaching sucks. pretty sure a lot of you would agree with me. this kickstarter is meant to treat one major part of that: the awfulness of textbooks.

you know that textbooks in the u.s. are hugely influenced by what politicians want in them, not teachers, right? vastly would help change that, taking the power away from politicians and giving it back to teachers AND students.

vastly, at the basic level, is a search engine that only searches vetted sites, then rates those sites by difficulty and allows teachers to monitor student improvement as they read. you can check this out on their site right now. at a more advanced level, it gives teachers with a subscription the ability to monitor students individual learning profiles.

teachers can track student improvement as they read more difficult information, and help teachers create questions catered to what students are learning. the site also creates concept maps to help students connect information and learn more.

i know when i need to learn about a subject i just google it. if i’m interested, i’ll read more. think of following the trail of breadcrumbs on wikipedia, or related stories on news sites, and how much you can read. now imagine if teachers could quantify that reading and watch your improvement. wouldn’t that beat a textbook?

textbooks are controlled by the worst parts of big education business and politicians who don’t know a goddamn thing about teaching. textbooks as they are now massively minimize the roles of women and poc and LGBT people and poor people and disabled people and religions other than christianity and the intersection of all of the above. imagine if students could easily access information about those people, especially students who are part of those groups.

this could also open up more opportunities for individual researchers and historians to have their work valued because the audience for their writing has grown.

check out the website or the kickstarter for more information. you can even recommend sites yourself if you sign up.

if this website gains support it will be an amazing resource for teachers. tumblr knows full well how much the internet can teach, right?

please share and support!

Friendly reminder that http://badboshtet.tumblr.com/ (ME!) makes COMPUTERS THAT ARE REALLY REALLY GOOD AND SO CHEAP YOU WILL CRY.

Like, forreal. You wanna play any video game out today? You don’t even need to spend 600$. You can spend more to be able to do that longer and get even better performance if you’d like, but around 500$ is all you need for a solid gaming pc. And I ship to most of the world!

Also if you’re trans or a person of color, I’ll charge even less. ZERO profit margin. 😐 None. Zip. Cost of parts and shipping only.

And if you don’t want a desktop or can’t afford one, signal boost me because I’m a trans girl in a state where its legal to fire / not hire someone in the first place for being trans? I do porn too but the industry makes me REALLY uncomfortable, so I prefer to do this. 😦

also cute girls should message me

So the only all-bird rehab center in North Texas is about to shut down

intergalactic-dragon:

oxytocinwanted:

I can’t even put into words how upset I am about this. Rogers Wildlife Rehabilitation has been open for almost twenty years, and is the only place in North Texas that takes in literally any type of bird if it’s been injured, orphaned, or otherwise incapacitated. They’re finally out of funds, and if they can’t come up with anything by April 2nd, they’re going to be forced to close their doors.

They’ve never turned away birds. Not when it’s a surprise 200 baby cattle egrets that’ve been orphaned because city planners thought they could cut down their homes and no one would notice. Not when it’s raptors with one good eye and in need of seven different antibiotics. Not even when it’s ducks that irresponsible parents won’t let their kids keep after easter. This is where anyone let me first get up close to birds. I mean, I’ve known I wanted to work with birds and wildlife since I was seven- I’m twenty four now, and halfway through an environmental science master’s and it’s a big reason I kept going.

I’ve been going to this place on and off for ten years, I was THIRTEEN when I started volunteering and seeing all the terrible things that happen to the birds that come in. Not just…hit by trucks, or caught in a hailstorm but parrots that have been left in foreclosed houses for weeks, and roosters that have come out of cock fighting rings and would otherwise be put down because the SPCA and humane societies don’t think they’re salvageable. There’s an emu that was raised there as a baby because no one wanted her. Her name’s Riley and I can’t even begin to comprehend what shutting the doors to the center would mean?

They don’t get government aid. They’ve been funded by the public donating and Kathy, the lady who owns the place, going through her retirement funds and savings and her social security to keep it running. She’s finally run out of money. Please,  just reblog? Even if you can’t donate anything- and I know it’s a lot to ask for poor teenage/college kids to donate money that they don’t have, or struggling artists I know but maybe someone who can spare something will see it eventually? They need $200,000 to keep open for a year, if they stop paying workers. And they’re all willing to not get paid if it means these birds will have somewhere to go, somewhere to stay if they need it.

Just, thanks for reading, guys. Here’s the gofundme link: http://www.gofundme.com/l8aj7k

Guys this is my best friend ever. She’s super passionate about this place and is always telling me about the help and care they offer to their birds. Please help them out.
