i am having way too many feelings over my erikar royals AU so im going to make a big dumb post about it

Ok so Eridan and Karkat are the heirs to warring kingdoms that neighbor each other but in a short time frame both of their dads die thus leaving them to take the throne. But because they are still too young at this time( maybe around 13/14 years old?) other people are temporarily put in charge of the throne(a trusted council, another family member, whatever.) Thus the leader(s) of Eridan’s kingdom decide that the war has gone on for too long and that they must negotiate a peace.
So they decide to marry Eridan off to Karkat, join the two kingdoms into one, and give Karkat the throne.
Suddenly these two kids are being forced to marry not only someone they had never met before but someone who they actively thought of as their enemy just months prior.
luckily for them, their relationship blossoms into the best case scenario and they learn to fall into a deep passionate love for eachother!
Unfortunatly the kingdom is still not entirely at peace. Both kingdoms had been bearing the burden or war for a very long time, making the populace resentful. Propaganda had also been spread on both sides creating widespread hatred and distrust of the opposite side. now that the kingdoms are united these prejudices have still not changed and lead to VERY unpopular opinion of the arranged marriage.
The people of Eridan’s Kingdom are outraged that the enemy has been allowed to take the throne that rightfully belonged to Prince Eridan and will not accept the enemy as their king. Karkat’s people hate Eridan’s family and think that he’s a cold hearten bitch that has sunk his claws into their precious king and is manipulating him.
Also, before Dualscar’s death he and the Condescension had been planning an arranged marriage between Eridan and Feferi since they got along so well and the kingdoms were traditionally always on very good terms. They had not made anything official but it was an understanding that both of them had. The Condescension, mournful of a friend and ally’s death and angered that Eridan had been married off to someone else (and also angry that Eridan didn’t even get the throne thus ensuring the continuation of good relations and trade with her kingdom(which has traditionally been on rocky terms with Karkat’s kingdom)) declares that Eridan and Karkat’s marriage is not valid and moves to try to remove Karkat from the throne.
Therefore, just a year (maybe just a few months???) after they are married Karkat is forced to leave the palace and lead his troops to suppress the growing rebellion in the Kingdom and protect his borders.
Eridan stays at the palace and deals with political issues and, of course, appearances. They don’t see each other for years.
