IMLO (in my lesbian opinion) arguing that there’s no way to “dress gay” isn’t really that progressive. Literally almost every gay person I know does something outwardly gay with their appearance because it’s 1. empowering and 2. a really good way to meet other gay people! I get wanting to ~fight stereotypes~ but there’s a big difference between stereotypes like “gay men are predators” and “lesbians love flannel”
“Not every girl with short hair is a lesbian” pretty much everyone that says something like this is heterosexual and doesn’t want to be mistaken for a lesbian because they are actually homophobic, and that’s the tea.
LITERALLY MY MOM THANK U
I don’t agree with this. There are lots of men and women who don’t “look gay” but are. There are also lots of cishet men and women who do “look gay” but aren’t. There’s no way to “look gay” outside of being caught with the genitalia of the same sex in your mouth. Clothing and style are not a determination of someone’s sexuality (or gender, for that matter).
Listen. I get that not everyone fits every stereotype in the book, I really do. But you’re really sitting here and denying the existence of gay culture (including fashion) and trying to pass it off as an intellectual take and that’s pretty dense. Flagging is huge in conservative areas where being openly gay isn’t acceptable and it’s entirely based on the concrete reality of gay fashion and culture. I get that you think you’re being woke or whatever but try some critical thinking sometime
