They gave ruby male pronouns???! God, the mental gymnastics The Straights will go to, just to prove that lesbians don’t exist and that THE GAYEST SHIT I HAVE EVER SEEM isnt gay

cutestlesbian-pearl:

The Russian dub gave ruby male pronouns. This is just the beginning of the “mental gymnastics The Straights will go to, just to prove lesbians don’t exist”.

The Swedish version of the episode,

“hit the diamond” changed the dialogue to erase any reference to Ruby and Sapphire’s relationship.

Also Ruby and Sapphire’s origin story “The Answer” has not been broadcast in Russia. The truth is there are plenty of episodes that didn’t see broadcast at all in certain regions. Most of the time episodes aren’t aired because of the depiction of same-sex relationships (The now-infamous “We Need to Talk” wasn’t shown in Turkey) and if they do show them, they are usually censored.

One of the biggest ones was in “We Need to Talk,” The dance itself was suggestive but not explicit, but even that was too much for Cartoon Network UK.

It’s unfortunate that so many young kids and adults watching the show might finally see a part of themselves on a show that accepts everyone and countries censoring and otherwise diluting this particularly powerful message is heartbreaking.
