nonbinarypastels:

I will never get angry with people who identify as queer because queer is a perfectly legitimate label to call yourself.

Queer people have the right to reclaim the word queer. Queer people have the right to have a Q in the LGBTQIA+ acronym and that does not at all harm or affect anyone who does not identify as queer. Identifying as queer because no other labels fit is a valid reason to identify as queer. Identifying as queer because your identity is complicated and a lot of other labels might fit is a valid reason to identify as queer. Referring to ‘the queer community’, as in the community of people who identify as queer, is not forcing the label on anyone else. Using the term queer to describe inanimate things (books, movies, fictional characters, etc etc etc) is not forcing the label on anyone else. Normalizing the use of the word queer as an identifier is a GOOD thing because it takes away the power to use it as a slur and puts the power back in the hands of actual queer people.

Being queer is not a bad thing. Being queer is beautiful and the word queer is beautiful!

This has been a PSA, enjoy pride month!
