From an Associate Dean at a DC University:

“Note to high school students! If you have people trying to convince you that skipping school to exercise your constitutional right to protest to try address our truly alarming gun violence problem will harm your ability to get into college…THEY ARE LYING.

You put it right in your college essay! You talk about how your grades may have slipped or you may have been suspended because you chose to take a stand not only for yourselves but for others. That you decided having the courage to follow your conscience was more important, that you have no regrets, and that you have every intention of continuing to exercise your constitutional rights and to work to make society better. It will STRENGTHEN your college application. We’re not just looking for people who make a certain GPA, we are looking for people who can show us they have the potential to make the world better, and a large part of that is the disposition to try to do so.

And if you are suspended for exercising your constitutional right to protest…then you pick up the phone and call the ACLU. And thank you. You give me hope. I will see you at the march.”
