who here knows latin properly, or well enough to tell me how
the bearer is under my protection
or
protect the bearer from peril/harm/evil/etc
would be phrased for the purpose of engraving small objects or talismans, without specific reference to a deity? I mean I could just use something like “conserva me” but that makes the object sort of protected in-and-of-itself, not acting as an amulet for its holder.
My ipad’s engraving is very simple: DEPOSITUM CUSTODI, keep that which is committed to thee. Lifted wholesale from The Treasure of Abbot Thomas, with zero apologies; I have very good memories of the various stories that particular tale inspired and shaped. (I still think the Royal Society for the Preservation of Monsters ought to be a thing.) My own ipod says God save the sweetness of your iron heart. Neither is what I need.
The phrase I’m looking for is to be put on a new phone given to a young woman by a much-older guardian, as a sort of passive protection against bad shit. Something she wouldn’t necessarily recognize as Powerful Words, and be easily fobbed off with “oh it just means good luck” or similar.
